Neil Desai
New York, NY
I am a fourth-year honors student at the University of Virginia double majoring in Foreign Affairs and Sanskrit, with a minor in Economics. An interesting fact about me is that I am the first undergraduate to ever major in Sanskrit at UVA! My passion is in international affairs, and particularly in the business opportunities presented by globalization.
My experience includes six major academic research projects on topics as diverse as Indonesian economic growth, controversy over the Japanese whaling industry, and slum rehabilitation policies in Mumbai. The latter two projects were conducted in Japanese and Hindi respectively, and both made extensive use of Excel and quantitative techniques. I also spent this past summer working at a non-profit political consulting firm, raising over $10,000 in total for major clients such as Environment New York and the Human Rights Campaign. I was promoted mid-summer to Field Manager and thus also had the opportunity to supervise small teams of four to five people. This semester, I am working at the Darden School of Business in their international office, interfacing with various stakeholders in the Darden community to help them broaden the school's global reach and international learning opportunities.
I am also currently seeking a full-time position that capitalizes on my strong analytical skills, globalized outlook, and direct client experience. I am confident that I will be an asset for any firm, but particularly firms with a presence in India, Japan, the Middle East, or China, and/or a strong business relationship with the US or Indian governments. I am also ambitious and a self-starter ready to thrive in any role, but would be an especially good fit for positions which involve extensive research and analysis work, include direct client contact, and require working as part of an integrated, dynamic team.
