Hi my name is Neil, I've been a coach with HSC CoWorks for the past three years since 2011.
I graduated from the Scots College in 2010 with an ATAR of 96. During my HSC year I studied Extension II English, Extension I Math, Legal Studies and Extension I Latin. Due to a deep-seated passion for life-learning, I found the HSC a truely engaging experience due to the diversity of subjects it allowed me to study. It allowed me to both explore my creative and literary passions through my Extension II major work whilst it pushed me to confront and ultimately overcome my difficulties in analytically orientated studies in Extension I Mathematics, as was evinced by my top band results in both. I was also invited to join the American National Society of HighSchool Scholars for my achievements in the SATs.
The HSC and my whole schooling experience at the Scots College helped me develop a challenger's attitude which I have since taken with me through my past three years of university studies. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Arts and am pursuing majors in Commercial Law, Finance, Accounting and Sociology alongside volunteering as a student writer for Inside Enterprise, a student run business journal. Professionally I aim to hone my understanding of the commercial, legal and social implications of the enterprise market so as I become an effective Mergers and Acquisitions Project Manager in the future.
On a personal level I continue to challenge myself in terms of long distance running events, obstacle courses and cycling events that support charities which include; Tough Mudder, City2Surf and the Sydney2Wollongong to name a few.
Through my experiences as a Senior Coach at the HSC CoWorks I have found that supporting HSC candidates in achieving their best ATAR result has been extrodenairly rewarding. Through brainbased coaching, together with the CoWorks team, I have helped equip each of our students with an independent learning mindset that has allowed them grow into self-reliant mature individuals as they transition from school into the challenges of the real world. For me there is no better feeling than knowing that I had a part in a students future success.
If I was to offer HSC students any advice it would be this; stay calm, have a game plan and make it flexible enough to overcome any obstacles or dissapointments that come up. I can't wait to work alongside you to smash the HSC!
