I have been been building and selling successful businesses for over 45 years.
My first startup was listed on the JSE.
I also facilitated several mergers and acquisitions, including companies such as Bell and Howell, Micrographix and Business Land.
I was was directly and indirectly involved in the listing of 4 public companies on the JSE and a merger with a Nasdaq listed software company.
After immigrating to Australia in 1987, I formed a start up computer software company with my cousin Derek Miller called System Builder Development Inc (SBD). We built this into an international group consisting of several companies in multiple countries, with hundreds of thousands of users.
In November 1995 SBD merged with a Database Company (Unidata Inc). I was the principal architect behind the merger of Unidata and a Nasdaq listed company (Vmark), which became Ardent Software - one of the top 100 computer companies in the world at that time. Ardent subsequently merged with Informix to create one of the top 5 largest database supply companies in the world and was ultimately acquired by IBM for over $2.5 billion.
Early investor in SEEK, PC Tools, NanoSonic, Beeologics,YBR, Carbon Systems now EnVizi, AAM LLC, Pollenizer, Ignition Labs, Blackbird and Startmate.
Since 1999 I have been involved with my own venture capital enterprise and residential and commercial property development.
I am a Director and Chairman of various organisations and am actively involved with a number of not for profit organisations.
My latest startup venture with my co-founders Tony Surtees, Robert Kawalsky and Adam Schuck is Zeetings.
Zeetings is a cloud-based presentation platform that transforms the audience from passive viewers into active participants. Zeetings is not about producing slides but rather about creating a genuine connection between the Presenter and the audience. www.zeetings.com
