Nora Elms

Student

My name is Nora Elms and one of my passions in life has been working with kids and the connections I’ve earned through my work. I grew up with a lot of younger cousins and family friends around which sparked my love for being a model and teacher. My family has always been very close growing up and I would always volunteer to be the babysitter or watch the younger kids when we had family reunions.

Without realizing it I began to really pursue teaching and taking care of younger kids throughout high school. I babysat for families in my neighborhood as every other teenage girl did and taught swim lessons at my local YMCA. I grew to love teaching lessons and seeing the confidence grow in kids in the water was really special. It was so rewarding to me when they would recognize me around the pool when I was lifeguarding and come up to see me.

The end of the school year was always a highlight in my life because of my work as a camp counselor for two summers in high school. It became something I would look forward to each year as the experience I had and was able to give to campers was something incredible. Throughout the summer I would meet and learn from so many kids and make friendships in staff that still last now. I still have such a love for working with kids and want to continue it in my career if possible.

I will continue to look for ways to pass on love and guidance to the next generation while in college. I also strongly desire to expand on my other passions including my love for science, specifically biology, and exploring the outdoors.
