Nelson Oppong is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the University of Edinburgh and a global development scholar whose work spans political sociology, governance, natural resources, energy, and contentious politics. His research draws on interdisciplinary, transnational, and comparative historical approaches, with a regional focus on Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. He is also a Senior Research Associate in Sociology at Rhodes University and serves on the Editorial Boards of the Review of African Political Economy and Critical African Studies, having previously guest‑edited Extractive Industries and Society
