Nesma El Shazly
Nesma El Shazly was born and raised in the United Kingdom. She moved to Egypt in 2007 to study at the American University in Cairo where she graduated with a BA in Political Science and a Minor in History.
Nesma was introduced to the culture of resistance at a young age through her heritage and through her family's ardent stance towards the situation in Palestine and the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. In 2001, her father took her to her first protest and it was at that moment in time that she decided to dedicate her life to resistance in hope of a better world.
When the call for revolution came, Nesma and her family were in full fledged support although her father was hesitant to let her protest in fear of the violent repercussions that were being taken by the police. Nesma therefore spent the first few days writing articles that documented the events in Egypt for a UK-based research and analysis site about the Middle East. After the atrocities that were caught on live television on January 28th Nesma and her family took to the streets in protest.
