A review of the course offerings at Neumont University will confirm that the school represents a new type of higher education in action. Neumont University, located near Salt Lake City, Utah, offers five innovative programs: four undergraduate and one graduate.

The BS in Computer Science lets students focus on one or more areas that correspond to needs in the information technology marketplace. Objectives include learning software standards, algorithms, system architecture, and problem solving. The BS in Web Design and Development curriculum combines instruction and practice in graphic design and site development. Coursework includes an emphasis on teamwork and interaction and the use of graphic design skills.

The BS in Software and Game Development emphasizes game-play design, project management skills, and best practices; students also move on to technical areas such as computer graphics and mobile and console development and leave as qualified developers for the gaming industry, or any industry. The BS in Business Technology Operations Management promotes business skills such as critical thinking and writing. Graduates are expected to assume corporate leadership roles and develop a portfolio of applicable business projects.

The MS in Computer Science curriculum includes objectives such as writing technical papers, reviewing literature, and developing information systems. The Neumont University Master’s degree is offered on a fulltime or part-time basis to accommodate work schedules.

Neumont University’s innovative calendar offers courses in quarters, each one lasting 10 weeks, broken down into two “sprints” of 25 days each. This works out to ten quarters, or two and a half years, for most majors, three years for the BS in Software and Game Development. Neumont University’s leadership believes this offers a focused environment for learning by allowing for long sessions of daily classes Monday through Friday.

The university began classes in 2004, and since, it has graduated over 400 students; 93 percent of them have moved into their chosen careers within 6 months of graduation. The campus is located in South Jordan, Utah, and features classrooms, laboratories, extensive gaming areas, a library, and a student commons. Neumont University is an accredited member of the ACICS.
