Soprano Nevalea Tkachuk is a returning member of the Opera in Concert chorus and a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance program at the University of Toronto (2016). During her undergraduate studies she was part of UofT Schola Cantorum and the Oratorio class, singing in masterclasses for Daniel Taylor, Nancy Argenta, and Vicki St.Pierre. She was also on UofT's Varsity Pom Team, dancing competitively, cheering for the football and basketball teams, and performing the national anthem at games. As an extension of her interest in dance and early music, Nevalea trained intensively in ballet and Baroque dance at Opera Atelier's 2016 Summer Dance Program.
In February 2017, Nevalea won the Sir Henry Pellatt Award from the Kiwanis Festival, placing second in the National Provincial Qualifying Class. She holds grade eight certification in both violin and piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music, where she currently studies with Helga Tucker and is working on an ARCT Diploma in Voice Performance.
