A translator and an orchestra manager, Nevin Nevin prefers calling himself photographer to highlight his greater passion. He is a self-taught photographer coming from the film era and has an eye for shots with an amusing and philosophical aftertaste. Combining with his love in creative writing, he started the GX Garnerings blog in 2008 where he has been writing about photography, his camera reviews and the fabulous things in Hong Kong and beyond. The blog has been quoted by a number of international sites and fora, and cherry-picked to list in an expat's guide to HK Blogs of 2010. With luck in pursuing both hobbies, he has in some open competitions including a Leica contest, won prizes including cameras, coupons, software, home appliances and a printer! He has also made to the finalist stage in other world photo contests. On his translation endeavours, he has done two books and a study guide so far. Apart from these busyness, he loves going to the movies, reading, hiking, drawing, as well as discovering subjects of cultural and traditional interests. He received education in Hong Kong, and studied very briefly in the everything-no-worries Australia, the I'm-a-notch-above-the-world Beijing and the every-uni-graduate's-got-no-job UK where the saving grace is that people celebrate failures. Having forgotten more than what he has learned in elementary Japanese, French and the near-ABRSM-grade-5 level in classical guitar, Nevin can still speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese and sing to tunes all right, hopefully. He is always looking forward to chances to further his passion in photography and writing.
