reeling in the years

Tommy and Nora live in Cabra in The north of Dublin. Tommy is 87 and Nora is 82. "I used to worry about the age difference when we started going out together, now we are like two peas in a pod" says Nora.

"Tommy worked all his life on the buildings, he worked on a lot of the houses around here. He worked up until he was 71, then he got a back injury and he had to retire. I worked started work in a local laundry when I was 14. Then I got a job as a cook and housekeeper. We were not blessed with children, so there has always been just the two of us, except when Tommy's Mother came to live with us. she was a lovely lady, we still miss her"

"We find it very hard to get out the way we used to, we're both on sticks. That's why we love the visits from our Friends of the Elderly volunteer. She's like a breath of fresh air, and she always makes Tommy laugh, especially when she talks to him about football. She often rings up during the week, just for a chat, and she sends us Christmas cards and she brought me a lovely pot plant for our front porch."
