Born Islam
- Born Devon Smith in Rochester, New York January 9th, 1990. Raised in a single parent home with his Mother, he was always exposed to various forms of music. The classic rock of Jimi Hendrix, the urban, melodic stylings of Mary J. Blige and the lyrical assaults of Jay-Z. He recalls being inspired at a young age by East Coast Hip Hop Legends the likes of The Notorious BIG, Rakim, Krs One, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Mobb Deep to name a few.
"Reasonable doubt was what made me want to rap, I remember when It dropped in 96 my father allowed me to listen to it. I was hooked. From the age of 8 I actually wrote lyrics, just BS I thought people wanted to hear (I was eight, I hadn't done anything, yet) it wasn't until middle school that I really took it seriously as a form of expression. I first was a battle rapper, then over time I began to approach rapping in a more expressive way. I wrote alot in high school, though I rarely publicly rhymed because I was terribly shy. Still don't really. In any case I made my first recordings when I was 17. Can't find those. and again when I was 18. Those where stolen. In any case my Street album "What Dreams May Come" is in production so right now I am focused on dropping my mixtape "Days, Months and Years" Early 2013. My first single from it will be a song baring the same name.''
Born Islam is a member of The Nation of Gods and Earths.
''This (Nation of God and Earths) is a major influence in my music. With this said I fast my music will produce Love, Peace and Happiness to all who listen to it. I do not want fame nor fortune just a medium of expression that others can relate to. Peace!!!!"
