Student, Dancer, and Public Speaker in Rosemary Beach, Florida

Hello, I’m Nicola. I’m a student living in Rosemary Beach, Florida. But before I was a student at the University of Georgia, I was a dancer at a little studio called Rhythm Dance Center.

It was the end of my senior year and me and my team had put in countless hours at the studio. Our bodies sore and our feet torn open, but our spirits higher than ever. We were about to go on stage for the last time, competing our favorite dance. My breath felt shallow as I set foot, one last time, onto the stage.

The routine was going well until the music cut out. If you're unfamiliar, the first thing they teach you in competitive dance is that if the music cuts out, you keep dancing. So we did just that, we kept dancing for a minute and thirty-six seconds. Everyone in the crowd was jumping up and down screaming, and the judges were giving us a standing ovation. But we never stopped dancing.

We may not have won the competition, but we all learned a very valuable lesson. As Dory would say “just keep swimming” but my team revised it to “just keep dancing."
