Communicator & Collaborator in East Lansing, Michigan

I am a Communicator & Collaborator finishing up school at Michigan State University. The two things that take up the majority of my time outside of school are my role within the Student Housing Cooperative (SHC) and my job as a Business Manager at MSU Greenline.

The SHC is a housing group with 15 properties in the East Lansing area. My house has 22 members, and as you can imagine, sometimes things can get a little crazy. Last year I served as our Membership Officer, and I got a crash course in managing relationships. I'm incredibly proud of the work I did last year and the ways that I helped to better my house as a whole. In the summer our house treasurer left the house, so I stepped up and filled in. Again, I'm incredibly proud of the work that I did. I took a $2,000 deficit, and through meticulous work and a very complex auditing process, found the errors that led to this deficit, and flipped it into a $1,000 surplus for my house.

At MSU Greenline I work as Business Manager to ensure our telemarketing center runs as smooth as possible. This includes building relationships with local businesses, interviewing potential employees, creating educational materials for our callers, as well as overseeing the performance of those callers. Prior to my role as Business Manager I was a caller as well. As a callere I acquired 200 unique donors for the university, and raised over $15,000. Green line's budget is on a bit of knife edge, so the changes we are making to the program now are vital to making sure that we can keep the telemarketing segment in-house at MSU, as oppose to outsourcing it.

Outside work, I try really hard to embody the "work hard, play hard" motto. I spend most of my time putting in work on various school/work/cooperative projects during the week. During my down time, I'm huge on sports. My big three are snowboarding, soccer, and basketball, in that order. Outside of these, I'll really play anything with a ball. I hate running, but I'll run if there's a ball in front of me. I'm also a pretty decent freestyle rapper, and I dabble a little in poetry.

I think the book "The Yes Man" by Danny Wallace should be required reading for every human on earth. Personality wise, I'm a bit of an optimist. I try to think about things logically, and logically it makes more sense to me to actively try to be happy. This includes not crying over spilled milk, and knowing the value of your words.
