I am a student at UMass Amherst, brother of Pi Kappa Phi, Ad Production Assistant Manager at the Daily Collegian Newspaper, and Push Chairman for the philanthropy, Push America at UMass Amherst. Alone these are just titles that I hold, but it is the devotion that I have for these positions that make them more.
My passion is for design. I love the creative process, free thinking in particular. I connect things, ideas, and people together. It is something I look to apply to nearly everything I do.
Even before I took my first Graphic Design class in high school I found myself in class endlessly scribbling in my notebooks during class. Graphic Design taught me to channel otherwise random doodles into actual pieces with substance.
I am an avid learner. I like to learn why people think the way they do and why things are the way they are. From this I can understand the intent of that person/ product and translate that into my design. I am meticulous in my research of tasks as well. I make a point to familiarize myself as much as possible with things new to me.
While I may be excitable when it comes to starting a task, pragmaticism is what keeps me in check. This is mainly why I chose Marketing as a major in the Isenberg School of Management. It takes design and adds scalable function to it.
My work at The Daily Collegian Newspaper adds a new perspective into this field. While most of most time there I spend formatting, tweaking, and placing the advertisements, I am sporadically granted opportunities to design for local businesses and organizations. From this I've learned when and when not to risk-take. Sometimes businesses are not looking for an overly creative ad or new brand but rather something point-blank that delivers their message clearly and without distraction.
