Nicholas R Fitzgerald

Amherst, Massachusetts

Born and raised in Massachusetts, I am a Finance major with a minor in economics currently in my second semester of my junior year in the Isenberg School of Management. My plans for after my anticipated gradation in May 2015 are to obtain a job in the financial industry in a major hub such as New York City or Boston. Being in a city would not only be a great opportunity for my personal growth, but it would also open up numerous venues for extracurricular activities and sporting events, which are great for networking with coworkers, clients, and friends.

My passion is explained simply with one word; Responsibility. Growing up in a family that owns a local seafood market and restaurant, I have learned that it is essential to own your actions; building off the successes and accepting the consequences of mistakes. It is important to make sure that your behavior does not negatively affect the branding of the business. Therefore, I have a strong passion for maintaining an image that is respectable and trustworthy.

With my experiences working as a processing analyst with State Street Global Services, a customer service provider for our family’s Seafood restaurant, and as the Treasurer of the Finance Society, I have given myself the tools and capabilities to strive in the workplace as a leader, problem solver, and true representative.

A big part of my passion has developed through my older siblings successes. Since they are relatively older than me, I have been able to see the results of what hard work and focus can bring. They are great role models for me and have showed me that no matter what challenges we might face in life, fair or unfair, it is your own responsibility to fight through them and persevere. Our family is built from a local seafood market that has been around since 1912.

For this summer I plan on interning as an underwriter for Liberty Mutual at their Boston office. This will only continue to support my passion as I will be valuing companies to see what insurance policy they will fall under. I will be able to bring my own sense of pride to the internship and will work as if it was my own family name I am representing.

Responsibility. What’s your policy?
