I AM A DISCURSIVE or out-of-the-head psychologist. In practice, that means I study what people say, how they say it, and what they DO with their talk or written texts. Put simply I ask: Why this, in this way, now?
What discursive psychologists don't do is use what people say or write as a way to get into their heads - that would be guessing!
As a qualitative researcher my primary interest is in the systemic failings of the traditional police approach to domestic abuse and sexual violence in the UK.
Other research topics of interest to me include the discourse of asylum, women's experiences of the criminal justice system, police practice and the experiences of people with mental ill health, graffiti and street art, and visual methodologies.
As well as being a social scientist I am also a creative writer, currently working on two novels, a fine artist, and a furniture maker.
I like to work across disciplines and to blur the boundaries between science and the arts
