Nick Shinn

Orangeville, Ontario

I’m a type designer. Before that I was a graphic designer, and before that, a creative director.

I collect old vinyl records, printed ephemera and books—especially picture books with gravure photos.

I play squash quite seriously, which involves diet (vegan), yoga, working out, training and coaching.

I’ve done some teaching, but nothing at the moment.

I speak at design conferences occasionally, and write for design journals from time to time.

I was born and raised in England, and moved to Toronto in 1976.

I’m married to Karey Shinn, we met at art school. We have two children, Zoë and Eric.

We’ve lived in Orangeville, a small town north of Toronto, since 2009, and have a summer cottage on Lake Muskoka.
