Nicki & Kristen

This blog was started by two friends living in different states. For the most part we have pretty normal lives, but every once in a while (on our frequent long distance phone calls) we come across something special: a little window into somewhere more real than this little life we are walking through. These timeless glimpses are what gives our lives meaning. We created this blog to have a place to record the little bits of wisdom, insight, and inspiration, so that when we need them or if you need them, they are right here.

The Name PROVERBS AND PARABLES: The name comes from the two ways Kristen and I (Nicki) are most likely to communicate things. Kristen is a one-liner aficionado. She loves simple truths that hit straight to the heart. I have to use an analogy to explain anything (literally you might get annoyed). I love seeing how fictional stories, acts of nature, or other things can explain complexities of how we think and feel. For me a picture or a story makes it stick. It's how God explains complicated things to my little mind.

Hey guys! My name is Kristen. My hobbies include drinking over priced espresso, taking artsy fartsy pictures next to dirty buildings, and analyzing instagram filters. I enjoy iphonetography, wearing high waisted shorts and Buddy Holly glasses that I don't actually need.

Said no one ever...

I am a 22 year old mess trying to figure out life, love, and godliness in the most graceful fashion possible (think Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality tripping and falling on her face). I guess you could consider me a little rough around the edges, I love God with everything in me, yet I love margaritas with almost everything in me (my waistline and margs don't always get along). I am a former competitive Latin dancer, and current overachieving Business student. I talk too much, I dance (and eat) like no one is watching, and try not to do all of these things at the same time... I have a thing for beautiful words and I really like pictures. My passion is painting pictures with words. If my eyes could speak, what would they say?

I am a walking dichotomy. I am very nerdy (like I listen to NPR, I'm majoring in economics, I like to read history textbooks for fun, and to top it all of I have a slight Star Wars obsession- my car's name is Chevroleia and the last one's name was Honda Solo ok). But I also love the outdoors am an avid athlete and as competitive as they come. I am crazy in love with Jesus and am fiercely committed to faith, but I'm down to earth enough to spend Saturday nights out with my awesome economic development crew.
