Nick Millican
Real Estate in London
Nick Millican serves as CEO of Greycoat Real Estate LLP, a position he has held since joining the London-based property development firm in 2012. With a Chemistry degree from Worcester College, Oxford, Millican brings analytical precision to real estate investment and development.
After beginning his career in Citi's Investment Banking team, Millican spent six years as a director at Rockpoint Group LLC, overseeing UK investment activities across various asset classes before taking the helm at Greycoat.
Under his leadership, Greycoat transformed from a consultancy to an operating partner business that typically invests 5-25% alongside larger partners in joint ventures. This strategy proved successful, with the company reaching approximately £2.5 billion in assets under management by 2018-2019. Demonstrating market foresight, Millican led Greycoat to sell most of its properties before the COVID-19 pandemic, creating liquidity that later allowed strategic reinvestment in undervalued assets.
Millican has positioned Greycoat as a leader in sustainable development, championing the refurbishment of existing buildings rather than demolition. "It's extremely hard to demolish a building and then use what you've taken to build a new building," he notes. "The more you can retain, the better the carbon footprint of what you're doing." This philosophy aligns with tightening London regulations that increasingly require justification for building demolition.
His development strategy focuses on creating flexible spaces that appeal to diverse tenant needs while prioritizing environmental performance. Notable achievements include leading the acquisition and sale of MOTO, the UK's leading MSA business; the redevelopment of Premier Place, EC2; and raising approximately £170 million in investment capital from a leading European buy-out fund.
Beyond Greycoat, Millican serves as a trustee at Chickenshed Theatre and created the Healthworkers Support Foundation during the pandemic, delivering food parcels to hospital workers.
Looking forward, he is guiding Greycoat's expansion into continental Europe, beginning with plans for a Paris office, while continuing to emphasize sustainability and strategic partnerships as cornerstones of the company's growth strategy.
