After receiving his BS in finance from the University of Southern California, Nick Tonsich studied for his JD at the Whittier College School of Law and, in 1987, was admitted to the State Bar of California. In 1998, Nick Tonsich assumed the role of a managing partner at Glaser & Tonsich LLP, where his foci for the next 16 years encompassed all litigation relating to environmental and maritime law, as well as tort defense.

Between 2001 and 2005, Nick Tonsich served as the president of the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners. As such, he was responsible for approving all budgets, capital expenditures, environmental impact reports, hiring of senior management personnel, and leases and otherwise managing operations at the Port of Los Angeles. During this period, the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce awarded him its Bold Vision Award, and in 2005, the Grand Vision Foundation named him Man of the Year.

In 2008, Mr. Tonsich founded Ocean Terminal Services, Inc. (OTS), which employs 120 mechanics and maintains, repairs, and supports cranes, harbor equipment, and refrigerator containers at the Port of Los Angeles. Concurrent with his duties as the president and CEO of OTS, he functions as the president and CEO of Clean Air Engineering-Maritime, Inc., a ship exhaust treatment services company.
