Nicky Jones
Teacher and Mother in Wellington
My name is Nicky and I like to eat. Finding good food and devouring it with whom ever's family and friends is one of my passions. In this blog, you will find a lot of food, I must disclose this to you now. I will not lie. If you like food, you're definitely on the right page. If you're on a diet but still like food, you're still on the right page (you're allowed to look, right? Good luck with that!) If you like to cook, you're on the right page too. I love cooking and at the moment, I am remodelling my kitchen so I can cook and make my food model for me so people can salivate and think, " 'dis b*tch now!!" If you don't get what I mean, please don't read any further and come click into my world of "Makan with Nicky".
For those who need more formal introductions, I am Malaysian but don't ask me what type because I don't even know. All I know is that my mother is Sri Lankan Filipino and my biological dad (yes, I used the word "biological"...long story...might tell this story 'buka the tong taik' when the time comes) is Bajau from Kota Belud. This is what 'they' had told me to tell everyone I meet but through the years I've been told to have additional 'bloods'. Anyway, Malaysian food, yes, yes, one of the best South East Asian cuisines. Can't go wrong with that. I am still the 'not so little' asian girl who grew up with all types of asian food and when my mother remarried to a Kiwi, I was introduced to Western food. When I worked as flight attendant with Singapore Airlines, I was thrown into more new cuisines from around the world and had a hand in preparing Business class meals. Holy moly, in hind sight, I think, this was where my hidden love for world cuisine came from. It didn't appear until I had to feed a husband and I couldn't just serve tuna sandwiches at every meal. Also as an asian woman, it would be horribly disgusting if you couldn't cook a single Malaysian dish. Consequently, my passion for food and cooking evolved. I have yet to learn more about the food around me and to tell you the truth, there isn't much that I don't like. I am lucky to live in Wellington where the food culture is supposed to be varied and awesome, we shall see as my blog progresses. So, eh, c'mon la, "Makan with Nicky".
