Nicola Hemmings

Consultant in UK

I am an HCPC-registered Occupational Psychologist and an expert in evidence-based HR practice, digitial behaviour change and strategic workplace wellbeing.

I consider myself a ‘pracademic’ —a practical academic who bridges the gap between research and real-world application.

Evidence-Based HR Practice

As a co-founder of the Evidence-Based HR Forum (EBHRF), established in 2018, I am passionate about driving better business outcomes through evidence-based HR practices. By working closely with organisations, I help them understand and implement strategies that improve business decision-making and optimise their workforce. I am committed to sharing knowledge and resources within the HR community to promote evidence-based practice and foster an informed and effective HR industry.

Digital Behaviour Change

With extensive experience as a Lead Psychologist, I have successfully designed, developed, and implemented digital wellbeing applications for both workplace and student populations. In these roles, I collaborated closely with product managers, designers, and development teams to create innovative solutions that promote positive behaviour change. Additionally, I have served on science and ethics committees, ensuring the ethical and evidence-based development of these digital products. My commitment to promoting good practice is reflected in my five open-access scientific publications on three different digital wellbeing applications.

Strategic Workplace Wellbeing

Workplace wellbeing is not a luxury but a cornerstone of organizational success. My doctoral research focused on ensuring that evidence-based workplace mental health guidance is both practical and acceptable in real-world settings. Through my consulting, I apply this strategic approach to create a comprehensive wellbeing strategy that extends beyond organizational-wide recommendations. By fostering team-level support and individual coaching, I help build cohesion, strengths, and confidence within the workforce. With a preventative focus, I offer active courses on preventing burnout and promoting a healthy, productive work environment.
