Nicola is a researcher, teacher, entrepreneur, writer and TEDx speaker focused on reinventing what it means to age and exploring the impact of technologies and their application in the society at scale and in the life of aging population and persons with disabilities. His proved international expertise in emerging technologies and digital disruption has been augmented by his global studies and research on cultures, society, policies, language and communication which helped him to quickly read complex global social scenarios and contextualize people wants, putting the end-user always first. His primary field of research is within aging-related scenarios where personal dignity, human needs & wants, economic factors, business processes optimization and technology converge.
In 2000 he joined IBM where he held different Italian and EMEA roles: among others, he has been Director of Human-Centric Solution Center and head of IBM Italy Communication Center of Excellence. Within his career in IBM, he developed his knowledge and skills on leveraging emerging technologies to improve the quality of life of older adults.
In 2015 he joined IBM Research where today he serves as Global Manager AI for Healthy Aging within the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he works and lives.
He is a co-founder of Tag Innovation School, the education platform of Tag, the most significant European co-working network; he is a founding board member of Amazing.Community, based in NY dedicated to transforming the false narrative about aging women by redefining workplace inclusion, one woman at a time.
Nicola is also the author of four books, a TedX speaker and an international lecturer in aging, innovation and digital transformation.
He serves as Board Member of International Scientific Advisory Committee at McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA), of GIMI (Global Management Innovation Institute) and member of the Gerontological Society of America; He is Adjunct Professor in Geroscience Universita' di Bergamo. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milano, a Master in Advertising and Communication and attended class with professor Don R. Pember in Mass Communication & Society at the UoW in Seattle.
