Nicolas Darmanin
Born in Malta, Nicolas started his training at the age of seventeen with Soprano, Gillian Zammit (former pupil of Carlo Bergonzi and Victoria de los Angeles), and made his debut in the Opera ‘Semele’ by Handel at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta. After completing a law degree, Nicolas moved to London to study for an M.Perf at the Royal College of Music, which he graduated with Distinction, studying with Rosa Mannion; supported by a Cuthbert award and a Nora Popple Award.
His Operatic Roles include Tamino (Manoel Theatre), Ernesto, Ferrando, Don Ottavio (Westminster Opera), Mercury (RCM Opera); also Tonio, Almaviva and Nemorino (Scenes – RCM). He has also appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in their performance of Linda da Chamounix as one of the Bambini, under Sir Mark Elder, a performance that was also recorded for Opera Rara. In concert, Nicolas has made several appearances singing a repertoire focussing on the Romantic song and opera repertoire of Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti and Tosti, Fauré and Debussy. He recently performed the solo Tenor in the Mozart Requiem at St. Martin’s in the Fields London.
He has participated in Masterclasses with Paul Nilon, Denise Mulholland, Jane Webster, Sarah Walker and Barry Banks. Added to this Nicolas had been accepted to sing on the Solti Te Kanawa Accademia di Bel Canto July 2011 where he had the opportunity to work with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Sir Thomas Allen. In Sept 2011 Nicolas has been one of the final 15 singers accepted on the CUBEC - Mirella Freni Masterclasses which took place in Modena.
