I never said I would be a special education teacher "when I grew up." In fact, I dreamed of being a physical therapist, nurse, and horse trainer as a child. However, I could not be more grateful for the journey that has led me to this pathway.
Six years ago, I fell in love with a little red head boy who stole my heart from the moment he walked in the door. I automatically felt my connect with a world that isn't necessarily perfect, but so beautiful. I have been given the gift to empathize with those who know what a hard day feels like, but keep fighting for more good days.
Through my journey to become a special education teacher, I have also searched and continue to explore ways to care for myself. My students give me the strength to continue doing this each day.
After a childhood of moving, I have found a sweet home in Chicago where I teach 6 students on the autism spectrum, and additionally 6 private clients with various needs. I could not be more honored to live, learn, and love this beautifully broken life alongside those with special needs. I can only hope I can continue to give back as much as they have given me.
As a teacher at Easter Seals Therapeutic Day School, Chicago resident, I enjoy being an advocate for special needs, drinking a large consumption of coffee each day, and strive to enjoy the simple things in life.
