I first learnt the interpretive trade as a frontline heritage interpreter at a historic mansion in the United States. In 2005 I moved to the United Kingdom. I was fortunate to become the first Learning and Interpretation Manager at the new Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, a place that taught me a lot about the deep importance that heritage has for people. After a successful career in heritage management and consultancy, I returned to my native Germany in 2016. As Director of the Volkshochschule Aalen, I got to deepen my understanding of Third Spaces as a democratic practice in adult learning. Returning to the UK in 2025, I am currently Head of National Waterfront Museum Swansea for Amgueddfa Cymru.

My particular interests lie in interpretation philosophy, community engagement, and heritage policy.
