Hello! My name is Nicole and I am a first year at Ohio State studying Middle Childhood Education.

  • From the StrengthsQuest test, I was told that on of my greatest strengths is being a developer. A developer is someone who sees the potential in other people and who knows that everyone is continually learning and growing. I have noticed that I see the potential in others, but saw that as a quality rather than a strength. I identify with "developer" most because I am pretty oblivious when it comes to bad qualities in people and I often give people the benefit of the doubt. This impacts my personal life because I am quick to trust new friends and my academic life by helping me to see the potential in my students later in my education. With this positivity, my classroom be a better learning environment for my students.
  • The Letter to Myself was a letter that described how I chose Ohio State, my main motivation for graduating college, things that I hoped to achieve and get involved in throughout college, and also where I see myself in 5 years. I chose Ohio State because it was close to home and because I have always wanted to be a buckeye. My main motivation for graduating was to learn how to be a great teacher. I set goals for clubs, academics and for my faith along with a somewhat random goal to learn ASL. I also mentioned that I don't know exactly where I'll be and what I'll be doing in 5 years. From this assignment, I learned to set, and write down, realistic goals in order to hopefully achieve those goals. I also learned that thinking of my motivations behind large events in my life can impact how I think.
  • Lessons from a First-Year Buckeye was an assignment that challenged us to think of and explain five lessons that we learned throughout our first semester of freshman year. My five lessons were to say no to fun things sometimes, to study throughout the semester, to sleep, to no eat everything in sight at traditions and to be ourself during class. This activity made me realize that I have learned so many things already this year. Writing down these lessons will remind me how valuable these lessons really are. I will definitely look back later in the year to remind myself of these lessons and also read them again when my younger friends ask for advice their freshman year of college.
