I am Managing Parnter and a founder of the law firm Shanahan & Voigt, LLC, focusing my practice in commercial and residential real estate transactions, as well as the contracts, leases, land use, zoning, and environmental matters related thereto. I additionally focus on business formation and contracts; litigation arising from business, real estate, construction, and landlord-tenant transactions; and administrative permitting and proceedings, including environmental, land use, zoning, and appeal of tax assessments.
I was recently selected as a finalist for New Jersey Monthly Magazine’s publication of Leading Women Entrepreneurs: The Best and the Brightest.
Prior to my legal career, I earned a B.S. in Ecology & Systematic Biology from California Polytechnic State University, performed research studifes for the National Park Service, and studied at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I offer a deeper understanding of the issues underlying land-use, conservation, and environmental matters. I use this multidisciplinary background to facilitate effective legal communications and resolutions among the parties to transactions.
From 2009 to 2013, I taught Legal 1 and Legal 2 for the Small Business Administration’s New Jersey Small Business Development Center, at Raritan Valley Community College. These courses introduced entrepreneurs to the basics of business formation, liability, and contracts.
I am appointed by the Court to mediate cases in the Special Civil Part and Landlord Tenant Divisions, and completed the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators 32 hour civil mediation training. Having studied and conducted mediatons for over 15 years, I am focusing on obtaining my accreditation from the NJAPM and provide accessible mediation practice for disputes not typically submitted to private mediation.
In addition, with a background in construction, and further as a business owner, I understands many of the legal, contractual, and administrative challenges facing small businesses.
I also own and operate Soaring Moon Books, a hobby company that published “My Moving Activity Journal,” to assist children whose families are relocating. Additional publications are planned.
Previously, I co-owned a general construction contracting business. Prior to that, I served as an associate attorney for Bowditch & Dewey LLP and Lawson & Weitzen LLP, in Boston, Massachusetts.
