I am a newly married, twenty-something, pediatric nurse living in the heart of downtown Chicago. On the contrast, my best friend Betsy (shown in the pic with me!) lives all the way across the county, is pursuing her Master’s degree in International Administration, and is a Tribe Leader for The Adventure Project. We have always cherished the fact that we share a common faith and a refreshingly honest friendship, while at the same time having vastly different callings and ways of living them out. I definitely don’t feel the calling to run a non-profit organization and am not looking to move to Africa anytime soon as my dear friend is, but we both have hearts that desire to RESTORE DIGNITY AND BRING HOPE to people – despite their situation or location in the world. Restoring dignity is at the core of the Adventure Project…and that is why I wanted to join this adventure. I have recently learned that 80% of the poor in Sub-Saharan Africa are rural farmers. And 75% of all hungry children in Africa live in farming households. The Adventure Project has partnered with the non-profit Kickstart, who has developed an affordable irrigation pump, capable of increasing a farmers income by 1000% (Yes, 1000)! This amazing increase in income is helping farmers in Kenya to provide for their families, to send their children to school, and to FIND HOPE.
