I am a freshman at Indiana University hoping to pursue majors in both accounting and finance. As a senior in high school I was exposed to accounting and even had the opportunity to do some tax returns for a local accounting firm. Here, I learned the importance of organization, the different roles of a business, and how important the little jobs are. Working here helped confirm my interest in accounting. Also, throughout high school I participated in community service. I completed a service project in Ecuador. For this project I helped clean and paint a school house to make it more modern and colorful, I got to play with the kids, and I also donated new school supplies to the school. While here I also got the opportunity to stand on the Equator! I have also volunteered in approximately 50 hours of coaching through my school and the local park district. I taught younger girls how to play volleyball and created a fun environment that made them passionate about the game. More recently I also participated in the Indiana University Dance Marathon that helps raise money for Riley's Children Hospital. The Equator that I stood on helps demonstrate the balance between accounting and finance, where accounting focuses on the past of a company and finance focuses on what is ahead.
