Hello! My name is Nidhi Patel and I am currently a student in my fourth year at the University of Guelph. I am majoring in Biological Sciences and minoring in Nutrition and Nutraceutical sciences (NANS) with hopes to become a registered dietician one day. I decided to declare a minor in the University of Guelph’s NANS program after taking a fundamentals of nutrition course in my second year that made me realize my strong interest in interpreting the interaction of nutrients and other substances in food related to the health of the human body and more specifically, the focus on how diseases, conditions and other problems can be prevented or reduced by promoting healthy eating and incorporating the essential nutrients into one’s diet. Joy McCarthy is one of many nutritionists who have inspired me with their dedication to promote healthy living with a natural approach. McCarthy is a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and best-selling author who put her passion for natural health into action to not only heal her own health problems but also inspire others to enhance their health joyously and naturally. Like McCarthy, I would like to raise awareness about the importance of diet and how nutritional changes can lead to the reduction or prevention of many health related problems as many of my family members suffer with complications such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

School put aside, in my spare time I enjoy going shopping, hiking, working out and volunteering at the hospital. I also like to watch basketball and the Raptors are definitely my favourite team. I used to do karate when I was in elementary school and received my black belt which is an accomplishment not many know but I am very proud of. All in all I am an outgoing individual who loves to take upon new adventures with my friends and family as well as hard working and determined to translate all of my goals and ambitions into reality one day!
