I'm an AP reporter based in Portland, Ore., arriving in the rainy Northwest after eight years in the Midwest. Yes! It was that long. Four in Missouri (college) and four in Iowa (first-ish job). A stint in Alabama was thrown in. When you start listing the things you're interested in, you're just eliminating all the stuff you're not listing. But, in no particular order but the first, here goes: Beer, writing, music that isn't horrible and long-form serial narratives on TV that don't suck. I'm originally from Miami. This has guided my choices in sports. So: Hurricanes, Dolphins, Heat, Marlins. What's hockey? My parents still live there and I expect to return at some point. Perhaps I'll talk it over with the girlfriend first.
