Nikej Shah is a New York City emergency physician. He attended medical school at the New York University School of Medicine before performing his emergency medicine residency at the NYU/Bellevue Hospital Center in New York.

In addition to providing medical care, Nikej Shah has done research on the prevention and diagnosis of traumatic head injury, as well as research on water quality in certain regions of the Himalayas, on Helicobacter pylori, and on Staphylococcus aureus.

Emergency physicians must have extensive knowledge of many fields of medicine in order to be prepared to treat the wide variety of injuries and illnesses with which patients enter the emergency room. Emergency medicine rotations, unlike rotations in other medical fields that focus specificallty on one organ, are rarely repetitive. Therefore emergency medicine can be an exciting field for medical students to consider.
