Nikomo Peartree is the creator of the Freedom School Movement. She is an educator, artist, and yoga-dance facilitator. Nikomo studies freedom through the reclamation of indigenous practices that she has discovered on a journey of self-exploration and healing. She gratefully acknowledges the teachings of her parents, Catherine and Guy (Meditation, Gardening, Home-Keeping, Storytelling); of her mentors, Neena, Leslie and Sherry (Indian Classical Dance, African Diasporic Dance, and Yoga); of her sisters Aisling and Jahada (True Love); of her teachers and students in schools (Freedom Education); of her beloved community; and of the multitudes of human and non-human beings with whom she feels privileged to share time and space. Nikomo is interested in how yogic traditions that explore how to bring the whole system (mind-body-heart-soul-community) into harmony can create more liberated and joyful spaces of human interaction.

Nikomo believes knowing the Self in relation to the World ought to be the goal of education. Her diverse educational and life experiences uniquely position her as an expert in the fields of education and liberation: African-centered education at Paige Academy; bilingual Spanish-English education at la Escuela Rafael Hernandez; women's college-prep school education at the Winsor School; environmental and community education at the Mountain School; tennis instruction at Sportsmen's Tennis Club; Indian classical dance training at the Triveni School of Dance; democratic education at the Mission Hill School; 200 hr YTT at FLY Yoga School, Yoga and Dance training at Afro Flow Yoga School; B.A. in Biology and Africana studies from Brown University; M.Ed. in Freedom Education from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education.

Nikomo identifies as a black, red, yellow, white woman, and respects everyone's personal gender, racial, ethnic, religious, and national identities and pronouns.
