Niloufer Perera
Kelaniya
Born in Kelaniya, Sri Lanka - a historical town just 7 miles from the city of Colombo, Niloufer is the eldest of 3 girls of a normal middle class family. Her parents, father an Author and mother a retired banker, both had a flair for Arts nevertheless not Musicians.
From the tender age of 5, Niloufer sang with her uncles and quickly acquired the ability to write lyrics and compose melodies for school occasions and even perform live at special events.
At the age of 14 Niloufer composed her first Sinhala song Sina Bindak where she did the lyrics, melody and song all by herself for a program for newbies at the time. Niloufer has not been a full time Artist as she has been involved with her professional career.
Niloufer has demonstrated lyrics and poetry writing skills both in Sinhalese and English during her school time and have won numerous awards for Poetry writing, composing and singing.
Niloufer began to receive recognition for her talent in 2002 with the famous ‘Daffodil Mala’, the very first melody she composed for someone else other than herself. This song sung by Dayan Witharana remains an all time favourite among many listeners.
The streak of recognition has only just begun.
