Nina Walia

Currently weaving technological experiences into interactive textiles as Design Lead for Project Jacquard (Google + Fashion/Apparel Brands like Levi's).

Previously, Nina was Design Director of Physical Product, App, & Brand for Vessyl (a cup that could detect its contents), where she oversaw how different aspects of design tied together into a cohesive customer/user experience as well as manage the day to day of the design team.
As Experience Producer for Nike's Nike+ FuelBand, Nina Walia oversaw the innovative user experience – across product, website, and mobile app - designed to motivate and inspire people to be more active. With her expertise and interest in making the world a better place through ubiquitous technology and gaming, she was a core contributor to evolving Nike's digital experience strategy.
Nina was subsequently recruited by GE to bring a design driven approach to concepting, producing and managing products. She created alliances and efficiencies across products and functions to simplify efforts and bring the right product to market. She was also responsible for governing, evangelizing, and delivering GE Healthcare’s new design system to ensure products meet brand and usability expectations.
She began her career overseeing interaction design and content development of websites and games for the Webby-award winning PBS KIDS for seven years. Committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children through curriculum-based games, she worked with top-tier television producers on a variety of award-winning program sites, such as Curious George and The Jim Henson Company's Sid the Science Kid. Her focus on creating compelling educational gaming experiences spanned multiple screens including television, computer, mobile devices, interactive whiteboards, and augmented reality.
She has spoken about her craft at many renowned conferences, such as the Interaction Design Association's annual conference, the International Conference for Interaction Design and Children, South By South West, Games for Change, Asia's Broadcasting Union's annual workshop, and the National Black Programming Consortium's New Media Institute.
Nina earned a Master of Science in Information Design and Technology from Georgia Tech where she sound designed responsive media spaces and created shisha:: a digital mirror to reflect collective identity exploration and contextualize online community discussion.
