Ning-Chiao Hsu

Ning-Chiao Hsu was born in Taipei, Taiwan. Ceramic art has always been an interest for her while studying in graphic design.

Before moving to San Diego, she continued to create ceramic art at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago while working full-time at a promotion and marketing agency as an art director. She enjoys the spontaneous expression without overthinking and the hand making experience unlike computer generated graphics. Her work combines wheel and handbuilding to create unique sculpture. She also applies the aesthetic of graphic design to her ceramic form. Her most recent exhibit at Caption Boutique and Gallery ‘Dwelling Series’ and previous show ‘Cultural Collage’ at Dittmar Memorial Gallery, Northwestern University 2013 showed her focus on exploring a miniature adobe village within functional and non-functional objects, inspired by American southwest art, to create a surreal expression.
