Nivia Fontanez

I’m Nivia Fontanez, a radiology technologist based in the Bronx, New York. I work in medical imaging, with experience in X-ray, CT scans, and bone density studies. I hold a New York State license in radiologic technology and am also qualified to administer contrast for CT studies.

My path into healthcare was not a straight line. I earned an associate degree in computer science from SUNY Cobleskill and spent time working in finance before deciding to pursue radiology. While continuing my education, I worked as a bartender and gained additional healthcare experience as a certified nursing assistant. In 2020, I earned my bachelor’s degree in radiology from Concordia College.

Working in radiology has given me the opportunity to combine technical skills with direct patient care. Medical imaging can be unfamiliar or stressful for patients, so I believe that being a good technologist involves more than operating equipment. Clear communication, patience, attention to detail, and helping people feel comfortable are all important parts of the job.

In 2025, I was honored to receive a Best Technologist Award in recognition of my work. I continue to value learning, professional growth, and becoming better at what I do.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading, traveling, and tattoos. I’m also interested in self-growth and the experiences that help us learn, heal, and continue moving forward.
