Nkululeko Cele
Student, Teacher, and Volunteer in Johannesburg
Hi, I’m Nkululeko. A proud third year student in University of Johannesburg, I’m doing Bachelor of Education in Senior and FET phase majoring in Life Science and Geography. I discovered the love of this profession in grade 11 where I used to teach Mathematics Literacy topics that I understood better to my fellow classmates, then I chose to pursue the profession. My grandmother used to say, “Ligotshwa lisemanzi” after disciplining me. This means, “A stick is bent while it’s still wet,” implying that children should be guided and shaped while they are still young because once they grow up, it becomes much harder to change them. Her words deeply inspired me to become an educator to work with young people, guide them in the right direction, and help them grow into responsible, capable, and compassionate adults who can positively impact the world.
