Nicole LaChance is a professional freelance transcriptionist who specializes in medical transcription.
BACKGROUND:
Nicole graduated from the Community College of Rhode Island's Medical Transcription Certificate program in 2006. Despite working full time and raising a young son on her own, she worked hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout her three semesters of attendance as well as successfully complete a 5 month internship. Within two weeks of graduating she was hired in her first medical transcription position, and her career continued to progress from there.
In 2013 Nicole stumbled upon the world of freelancing. She quickly discovered that there was work to be had on freelance websites, and she put a lot of time and effort into developing profiles on these sites to market her services on a freelance basis. Within a year she had designed and published her own website www.nlachancefreelance.com and was soon discovered by private clients needing assistance with a variety of transcription assignments. She also successfully completed the training process to learn how to do closed captioning transcription and was hired as an independent contractor on a freelance basis by Automatic Sync Technologies.
TRANSCRIPTIONIST JOB DESCRIPTION:
A transcriptionist's role is to listen to dictated information and then type this usually using a keyboard and personal computer. The data can be transferred to a variety of digital documents such as a word processing document in Microsoft Word or perhaps a spreadsheet. The transcriptionist is responsible for all necessary proofreading and editing to ensure proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Documents, once transcribed, are printed and presented to the client who originally dictated the information.
In many circumstances, a transcriptionist must understand specific terminology applicable to the type of information presented -- for example, medical, legal or possibly academic terms guaranteeing specific accuracy for context. Additionally, a good deal of dictated material is transported via the Internet, compelling a professional transcriptionist to have the specific skills to enable the delivery of voice data and the return of transcribed documents online.
