Sumeyyah Mohammed
Student and Teacher in South Africa
I am a student teacher and am doing my B Ed. via the University of Johannesburg majoring in Geography and ICT.
As a teacher, I am committed to enhancing my classroom environment with understanding and empathy, where every learner feels seen, heard, and valued. I believe in nurturing a growth mindset and encouraging learners to embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and personal development as I do the same to model this behaviour for my learners.
I also wish to develop vital 21st-century skills within my learners. My outlook for my approach to teaching is through learner-led approaches and the cultivation of critical thinking skills. I aim to empower my learners to ask questions, explore ideas, engage meaningfully with the world around them and value nature’s beauty around them while also improving analytical and scientific skills. With this, I aim to instill a love for learning in my learners and an appreciation for the ever-evolving nature of knowledge while fostering collaborative skills in my learners along with respect for diverse views and perspectives.
