Nelson Mwakanema is a Malawian professional, human resource practitioner, community development advocate, and Christian leader with extensive experience spanning military service, human resource administration, leadership, education, music, and youth development.

Nelson has served with the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) since 2010, gaining experience in administration, human resource management, leadership, discipline, teamwork, and institutional service. His professional development includes a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from the University of Malawi (2024) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Christian Leadership from African Bible College (2019), complemented by professional training in telecommunications, military leadership, and music.

Beyond his professional career, Nelson is deeply committed to community transformation through education, faith, youth empowerment, and entrepreneurship. He is the founder and driving force behind initiatives in Mategula Village, Zomba District, including the development of Mategula Secondary School, a Christian education initiative established to expand access to quality education for young people in an underserved community.

Nelson also established the Faith Foundation Youth Club, a community-based initiative engaging young people in Mategula Village and surrounding communities. The initiative seeks to develop responsible, disciplined, and productive young people by addressing four interconnected areas: morals, spirituality, physical development, and business/entrepreneurship. Through these areas, the club encourages young people to build strong character, develop their relationship with God, maintain healthy and disciplined lifestyles, and acquire practical skills for economic self-reliance.

His approach to youth development is based on the conviction that young people require more than academic knowledge. They need character, spiritual grounding, physical wellbeing, practical skills, and opportunities to create sustainable livelihoods. The Faith Foundation Youth Club therefore seeks to create an environment where young people can discover their potential, develop responsible leadership, support one another, and contribute positively to their communities.

Nelson is currently pursuing a PhD in Business Leadership, with his academic interests focusing on the relationship between leadership, governance, entrepreneurship, and institutional growth, particularly in the context of organizational and community development.

Through his military service, academic work, Christian ministry, and community initiatives, Nelson continues to pursue a broader goal of developing people and institutions that contribute meaningfully to the social, spiritual, and economic transformation of Malawi.
