A native of San Jose, California, Noël Wan (1994) is an internationally acclaimed harpist and passionate advocate of new music and multimedia collaboration. Since beginning harp studies at the age of four, she has garnered international prizes, including First Prize in the 1st Dutch Harp Festival Competition, the 22nd Chi-mei Arts Award, Second Prize in the 2013 Nippon International Harp Competition, and the Aharon Zvi and Mara Propes Special Award in the prestigious 18th International Harp Contest in Israel. An avid performer, Noël has concertized in Asia, Europe, and North America; additionally, her interest in new music has given her opportunities to premiere solo and chamber works by Dutch composers Peter van Onna and Henk Alkema, Dmitry Tymozcko, Augusta Read Thomas, and University of Illinois faculty Stephen Andrew Taylor and Reynold Tharpe. Noël’s most recent premiere is a collaboration with Brooklyn, NY/Urbana, IL based choreographer Jennifer Monson on “La Merita,” a Zeena Parkins inspired project on modern dance and music from Debussy’s La Mer.
