What if we had to pursue the first career we were interested in as a kid? Then I would be a professional wrestler, an actor, Michael Jordan, a comedian or a song writer. Growing up in the 90’s, I was consumed with the culture! The Golden Age of Hip-Hop, the Attitude Era of wrestling, the slapstick comedy of our favorite sitcoms/movies and of course sports. I still indulge in all things 90’s and use it for inspiration/style in my creative work.
They say “The creative adult is the child who survived” and that is me.
When I finally “grew up” and had to get a ”job”, I knew I wanted to do something creative and not just sit at a desk. I first picked up design and video as a hobby then I turned those into creative careers after graduating college. Being one of the few minority creatives in my city, as well as an underground artist, I quickly created a market for helping other artist promote their music by co-hosting an internet radio show, recording music videos and designing promotional flyers. I got the nickname None Flyer because of my fashion sense and creating flyers for clients when there wasn't a market for it in my community. My friend Ray always told people who were looking for flyers to be created "None one does flyers like my man J.R." And that cultivated into the moniker "None Flyer". The name stuck and I use it for my own personal branding as well as my artist stage name.
I’m an avid sports fan especially the Cleveland Cavaliers, sneaker head (over 100 pair - Mostly Jordans of course), I love movies, movie quotes, and I love music.
In all when I compare who I am with what I wanted to be as a kid, I’m exactly what I wanted to be.
