Norae Shakur

A member of the Boston University Class of 2012, Norae Shakur studies International Relations, with a focus on Latin America and Environment and Development. Norae Shakur received a G24 Spanish Scholarship, and in 2011 she attended Universidad Veritas in San Jose, Costa Rica, to study Spanish as a part of a special summer program. Norae Shakur is a member of the International Affairs Association and International Student Consortium at Boston University.

Norae Shakur enjoys a longstanding passion for swimming. She devoted many hours a week to Swim Team during her high school years, earning Most Valuable Player honors in her freshman and sophomore years and serving as Team Captain in her senior year. An avid NCA Swim Club participant, Norae Shakur has been a High Point Winner and she achieved Swimmer of the Month on six occasions.

Norae Shakur has shared her love of swimming through community service efforts, serving as a Meet Volunteer for San Diego Imperial Swimming and working as a volunteer lifeguard with the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department. Norae Shakur enjoys a number of hobbies, including travel, photography, and practicing yoga.

Consistently successful in academics, Norae Shakur earned a place on the honor roll at Point Loma High School in 2005 and 2006 and again at the La Jolla Country Day School in 2007. La Jolla Country Day School selected Ms. Shakur to represent the institution at the 2006 National Association of Independent Schools conference on Student Diversity Leadership in Seattle. Active in several clubs in high school, Norae Shakur belonged to the Key Club, Spanish Club, and the National Society of Black Engineers (serving as Vice President in her sophomore and junior years).
