Student in Sammamish, WA
My name is Norah White. I am a student at Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington, and I am the editor of the Spartan Forum.
I have been writing for the Spartan Forum for two years and through it, I was really able to find something I love. Last year, I was a writer for the News section, and this year I was given the opportunity to be an editor of the Features section as well as editor-in-chief.
I love journalism because it gives me the opportunity to learn about and speak with others, and it gives me a place to express my creativity and desire to inform.
When I write, I enjoy looking for new lenses through which to tell my stories. Finding what is newsworthy and reporting it factually can be even more interesting when looking at it through the right lens.
During the pandemic when lots of small businesses were shutting down, I talked to people at a local bookstore. I found that the pandemic had actually helped them in some ways. This is an example of how finding a unique lens can lead to an even more rewarding story both for others and yourself.
This leads to my biggest takeaway from this year's journalism class, and that is that telling the right story from the right lens can be so much more rewarding than you can imagine.
