A senior medical director for the EMD Serono Research Institute, Norma Muurahainen MD PhD works in clinical development in the division of immunology and neurology. and has previously worked in endocrinology clinical development. Through these poistions, she leads initiatives for clinically testing of new drugs for conditions ranging from osteorathritis, inborn erros of metabolish, to HIV/AIDS and metabolic syndrome. Norma Muurahainen also prepares briefs for the FDA and other international healh authorities to approve tested medical products. She additionally serves on cross-functional acquisition teams to license in potentially beneficial products to take to trial.

Prior to entering the biotechnology industry through Serono, Norma Muurahainen served as the medical director for the Ambulatory Care Services Clinic The Graduate Hospital affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania and later Allegheny University Hospital in Philadelphia PA. Her past experience includes several years as director of the department of medicine Division of HIV Nutrition Research and co-director of internal medicine ambulatory services and
