Norman Eng

CHILDHOOD EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR

Know your target audience. These are the 4 words Norman lives by, inspired from his days in advertising. Like clients, students insist instructors meet their needs. Norman’s ability to do this explains why over 90% of students recommended him this past semester, with 100% highly recommending him during the fall 2013. Furthermore, 98% of those who have taken his math ed course pass the departmental proficiency exam. Norman was also nominated as one of Nat'l Honor Roll’s Outstanding American Teachers in 2006.

EDUCATION RESEARCHER

Norman focuses on 21st century education—for the 99%. He recently co-edited a symposium and enlisted some of the industry’s top scholars (incl. Nel Noddings, James Comer, and Carol Ann Tomlinson) to articulate their vision of 21st century excellence in education. He then developed a new “ownership-based” approach, which he will present on May 2015 at Brooklyn College. READ his articles on The Educated Society. WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID:

Mr. Eng’s articles are well written and have appeared or are about to appear in major journals (or news papers), including Society, American School Board Journal, Journal of Social Issues and Education Week. Although there are no guarantees in life, if I had to wager a bet on someone’s professional career, I would place my money on him. He’s the “real deal."

On the 22 questions [on student evaluations, Norman] scored between 90-98% on the Excellent/Good categories. The students also pointed out the usefulness of his assignments/projects, high grades for the knowledge they gained as well as improving their abilities to analyze and solve problems. Norman is a strong teacher of teachers.

Norman presents passionately and quickly engages his listeners. He tailors his instruction to the needs of the audience—whether by addressing students’ pain points or by relating topics to the bigger picture.
