Washington Island is a mysterious place, and from the first moment I crossed Death’s Door on the ferry it cast its spell over me. Every day I spend away from there--which is most of the time--feels as if I have been torn away from something essential to my well-being. It is my longing to return, I suppose, that led me to write about life on the Island.
