Mill of forse, Latheron, Caithness

I have lived in the far North of Scotland for 25 years and worked in clay for 30.

Having studied Sculpture and then worked as a studio potter through the 1980's, I found myself in Caithness. Here was a derelict oatmeal mill perched on the coast, where the cliffs of Latheron sweep northwards towards Wick and the Orkney Islands beyond.

I bought the Mill of Forse in 1993, and set up Northshore Pottery where I have lived and worked here ever since.

My ceramic sculpture takes form from structures in the landscape particularly the fabulously ancient sedimentary rocks that shape the land and boilogical structures that populate the coastal areas.

My thown forms contrast the sculpture. They are simple, functional and concerned with the expression of the process by which they are made.
